Finding Balance

My workout routine last month was a full month of Billy Blanks’ Ultimate Bootcamp.  It was awesome.  I had a great time and I really felt like I was getting a good workout.  This month I decided to change it up with some Yoga – not ordinary Yoga – Yoga Meltdown with Jillian Michaels.  I had tried it a few times years ago but now I do it every day.  It is wonderful!

For the first time I understand “timing your breaths with the movements.”

I feel like my Sun Salutations are actually looking pretty good!  Yoga does not come easily for me.  I am more of a “muscle it” girl.  Yoga is about connecting with your body and flowing through the motions.  It’s been really good for me.  But honestly, it wasn’t enough.  I was breathing heavier than I anticipated with it being Yoga, but at only 35 minutes I needed more.

About a week a go I added in the Ab Bootcamp  before Yoga and it’s just right!  I get to work my most troubled area for 35 minutes – it limbers me up for Yoga and I appreciate the differences of the two.  I feel like I finally found that place that is not too much, and not too little.

Concerning my diet, a couple of months ago I cut out 100 calories a day – it was a lot easier than I thought it would be and it keeps me honest.  A few days I have gone over, but not many.  I am still being vigilant about my salt intake – that one is tough when you are shopping.  I think I only went over one day when I ate the last lingering can of soup – soup is killer for sodium.  I am very happy with my progress so far.  It doesn’t get easier though.  You would think by now I would be happily in the routine, but there are definitely some days I would rather sit this one out!  But with only one day off a month I don’t get to make that choice very often.  No days off for the diet.  It’s not worth it.

This week I did eat 2 cookies at an event.  Someone brought me one – what was I supposed to do?  The other one I freely took from the plate – no one to blame there – but it felt good.  I didn’t go over my calories and a little treat every once in a while doesn’t hurt.  I was very tempted to eat a burrito the next day but I held to my diet and didn’t consume any more wheat products for the week.  I was proud of my decision.

That’s what it is all about – each decision you make for a better life and better health counts.  It isn’t easy, but it’s worth it!
